Steven Kempton replied to Paul Jacobs's discussion Winter Rant - what's wrong with the recruitment profession?
"Would clients pay for this Paul? I mean I work exclusively regularly and I've also done my fair share of retained work. Even with a retainer, clients will get very angry if you don't eventually fill the role. Just sharing their merits to…"

About Me:
I own and run an Executive Search firm called Search Niche working on senior technical and sales positions for firms trying to build their business presence in the Asia Pacific. I have two beautiful little boys and currently live in Auckland, New Zealand. I love to travel and my favorite places in the world outside of New Zealand are Hawaii, Fukui, Japan and San Francisco. When I am not working I like to watch sport and try to raise vegetables in the garden. Occasionally I will submit myself to being punched in the head while attempting the ancient and venerable sport of Muay Thai. I also speak, read ( fairly well) and write (very poorly) in Japanese.

I can relate re starting lots of blog post drafts. I always set out to write a short post and then they grow to be too long once I start writing - eg my envisaged short post on Second Life and recruitment has ended up being a 3 part trilogy without the hobbits. Maybe video posts or the Jim Stroud approach is the way to go.

Man what a day.... sorry, it's late I'm writing this, but I just arrived at home. (took a few more days, went back to work, and now finished this)

But back to the start of my day...

Great start... woke up without the sound of crying (I have young children... this is a perfect start of a day!)

Then... awesome breakfast provided by the #atcsyd guys (the…

#ATCSYD OMG... Australian Talent Conference is GO!

If you're reading this and you haven't been able to attend this weeks #atcsyd (the Australasian Talent Conference in Sydney this week) there's a couple of things I'd like to say.  Well, firstly, "sucks to be you" :), secondly, I apologies for the large input on my twitter feed and thirdly, better…

Career Planning…. New Years Resolutions

For those who read my blog, you'll know I've recently changed jobs, and I've been pretty slack in posting here in the last year.  Some will say "again?" others have been congratulatory, I have to say it has been an interesting experience.  I'm 37 years old and I'm into my 5th professional job (not counting the moss farming, kitchen hand and service station attendant during University and high school).  Being the new boy again, facing those nerves of the unknown, will they like me? will I…

TRU Australia - Idea generation on crack

Last Friday, after two days of excellent workshops and presentations at the Australasian Talent Conference's annual Social Media event, I attended the inaugural The Recruiting Unconference (TRU) Australia in Melbourne. I shared a taxi to the TRU venue, the Royal Melbourne Hotel, with the founder and conference dis-organiser of TRU, Bill…
