Recruitment Asia Pacific

This week Trade Me claimed victory over SEEK - and SEEK responded with some valid points (agree?). The important question is whether these job boards are actually delivering their advertisers quality candidates? I would love to see some stats on that!!

In terms of advertising, SEEK have invaded my YouTube viewing experience - though clever placement, I'm getting frustrated with their ads invading the videos I watch. And of course Trade Me Jobs advertising is appearing on their Australian owner's Fairfax websites (eg Stuff.co.nz). Could these boards do more to promote their employers / recruiters advertising with them? Would client advertisers' pay a job board for their ads to appear on the social web (co-branded and all)? Maybe there needs to be more promotion of client advertisers and their job opportunities, rather than promotion of the job board itself - instead of playing the whole unique browser game.

Trade Me Job's $250,000 'On the Job' campaign / video series earlier this year didn't personally resonate with me, but I got their intention. However, Trade Me Job's recent strategy of encouraging people to sign up for email alerts makes sense and is long overdue in my opinion.

SEEK has just launched an iPhone app - I've had a play with it and it exceeded my expectations. It actually got me using SEEK for the first time in a long time.

It would be good to hear the views of other job board owners (eg jobs.co.nz, myjobspace.co.nz).

But back to the start of my day...

Great start... woke up without the sound of crying (I have young children... this is a perfect start of a day!)

Then... awesome breakfast provided by the #atcsyd guys (the…

Career Planning…. New Years Resolutions

For those who read my blog, you'll know I've recently changed jobs, and I've been pretty slack in posting here in the last year.  Some will say "again?" others have been congratulatory, I have to say it has been an interesting experience.  I'm 37 years old and I'm into my 5th professional job (not counting the moss farming, kitchen hand and service station attendant during University and high school).  Being the new boy again, facing those nerves of the unknown, will they like me? will I…

Last Friday, after two days of excellent workshops and presentations at the Australasian Talent Conference's annual Social Media event, I attended the inaugural The Recruiting Unconference (TRU) Australia in Melbourne. I shared a taxi to the TRU venue, the Royal Melbourne Hotel, with the founder and conference dis-organiser of TRU, Bill…
